Super Scientists

"The scientist is not a person who gives the right answers; he's one who asks the right questions." - Claude Lèvi-Strauss, Le Cru et le cuit, 1964

What's hoppin'?

Week 39:  This week we will continue learning about how to classify plants and then we will move on to how plants and animals change in different seasons.  With everything that was happening last week we didn't get to science as often as I would have liked.

Week 38:  This week we will continue learning about how to classify plants and then we will move on to how plants and animals change in different seasons.

Week 37:  This week we will continue learning about how to classify animals and then move on to how to classify plants.

Week 36:  We will return to science mid-week.  We will learn about how to classify animals.

Week 35:  We are still on our break from science as we focus on social studies.

Week 34:  We are still on our break from science as we focus on social studies.

Week 33:  We wrapped up our Energy unit before FCAT and are now returning to Social Studies for a few weeks.

Week 32:  This week we will use our Scholastic News magazines to teach us about current events (sometimes they focus on science and sometimes social studies topics).  The articles also provide excellent examples of grade level nonfiction text and text features.

Week 31:  This week we will utilize our Scholastic News magazines to read great articles on both science and social studies related topics.  I just love when the subjects work together!

Week 30:  This week we will learn about some ways that energy changes form as we wrap up our energy unit.

Week 29:  This week we will continue our energy unit. We have learned about electrical, heat, sound, light, mechanical, potential, and kinetic energy.  This week we will learn about some ways that energy changes form.

Week 28:  This week we will continue our energy unit.  If anyone has any “home” magazines and/or catalogs that you would be willing to donate to our class I would really appreciate it.

Week 27:  We are returning to science as we begin our energy unit.  I can’t wait to get started!

Week 26:  We are still on our break from science as we focus on social studies but should be returning shortly.

Week 25:  We are still on our break from science as we focus on social studies.

Week 24:  We are still on our break from science as we focus on social studies.

Week 23:  We are still on our break from science as we focus on social studies.

Week 22:  We wrapped up our Matter unit last week and are now returning to Social Studies for a few weeks.

Week 21:  We will spend this week finishing up our matter unit with an assessment this Friday!

Week 20:  We will spend this week and next finishing up our matter unit.  We sure have learned a lot!

Week 19:  We are still learning about matter.  We did not get to science last week.

Week 18:  This week we will continue to learn about matter.  We have a few more things to learn before switching back to social studies.

Week 17:  This week we will continue learning about matter as we begin a three day experiment.

Week 16:  This week we will continue learning about matter and how to observe and measure its properties.

Week 15:  This week science returns as we begin learning about matter!  Science is always a fun time during our day.

Week 14: We are almost ready to return to science.  We will begin our unit on matter soon!

Week 13: We wrapped up our universe chapter and we are now on a short break from science.

Week 12:  This week we will wrap up our space unit.  We have learned a lot of very cool things!

Week 11:  This week we will learn about gravity.

Week 10:  Last week we focused on stars and the students even had an opportunity to make their own constellations.  This week our learning will be focused on the sun.  It’s a hot topic!

Week 9:  Science is back!  Space is our next topic, which goes perfectly with this year’s school theme.  Our first step will be to learn about stars and constellations.  We will even learn about how we can observe the sun safely.

Week 8:  One more week and science we will be back!

Week 7:  We are still on a short break so that we can focus on our next Social Studies chapter.

Week 6:  We are now on a short break so that we can focus on our next Social Studies chapter.

Week 5:  This week the students will have an opportunity to use some of the science tools that we have learned about to become real scientists.  We will work to answer the question, how can a tool help scientists observe?

Week 4:  This week we will continue learning about the tools that scientists use and answer the question, why is it important to communicate clearly?

Week 3:  This week we will begin learning about the tools that scientists use.  We will also practice using our five senses to observe and record details from our surroundings.

Week 2:  Do to the limited time in our daily schedule we will need to alternate between science and social studies.  Our focus for the beginning of the year will be on social studies.  Not to worry-science will be coming soon!!!

Week 1:  This week your child will be learning the rituals and routines of his/her new classroom.  More great learning coming soon!
